Every Sigma Kappa knows the of the basics of the Founders and Founding: Sigma Kappa Sorority was founded in 1874 by the first women to attend Colby College. But who were these women? What do we know about them as individuals and about their lives after Colby?
This exhibit explores these questions. It looks at the early history of Colby College, the Founding of Sigma Kappa, and each of the Founders individually in order to provide a more complete view of the Founding and of the individual Founders. The final section explores the legacy of the Founders at Colby, their lasting impact on the institution, and how they are remembered and honored there today.
