EXTENSION
For the 2017-2018 academic year, the growth of Sigma Kappa focused on two primary
areas-establishing a new chapter at Austin Peay State University and preparing to
reestablish our Alpha Omega Chapter at the University of Alabama. Our intentional
growth strategy allowed our team to focus our energies on delivering a customized and
individualized process for each campus.
In fall 2017, we established our Lambda lota Chapter at Austin Peay State University,
located in Clarksville, Tennessee. This outstanding campus welcomed Sigma Kappa with
open arms and we could not have been more appreciative of their support. The Austin
Peay campus community is incredibly values-focused and inclusion-driven, making it an
ideal location for our newest Sigma Kappa chapter. Lambda lota received their charter
at the Regional Leadership Conference in Cincinnati in spring 2018.
When beginning the journey in spring 2017 to reestablish our Alpha Omega Chapter at the
University of Alabama, we knew this would be the largest extension project in Sigma Kappa
history. To support and guide this project, the extension team took our individualized campus
approach and multiplied it in myriad ways. We started by putting in place Team Alabama,
a 25-member team of volunteers and partnering staff members. We continued our deep
and specific support by adding a full-time staff member who moved to Tuscaloosa to build
relationships and gain a complete understanding of the community. Building alumnae
support has also been a significant focus of our efforts with updated strategies. This year has
been spent visiting, learning, building relationships, and preparing.
Reestablishing Alpha Omega has pushed our organization to build more intentional
pathways among the three entities: the Sorority, the Foundation and the National Housing
Corporation. The challenges specific to an extension effort this size have provided a
venue for us to evaluate every extension process. These new strategies and collaborative
relationships will not only benefit every extension opportunity that follows, but provide the
groundwork for transferrable tactics we can use to support our established chapters.

additional support in all areas of collegiate
management and recruitment. Ten new
chapters, four specialized chapters, 11

$475,500 AWARDED IN GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Sigma Kappa Foundation granted the Sorority $290,000 during 2017-2018. The grant
for $190,000 provided support for the leadership consultant program and RLCs. This
was in addition to the special $100,000 grant for enhancing the leadership consultant
program which was approved earlier in the year. These funds will go towards mental
health training and other enhancements to the program starting with the 2018-2019
academic year. The Foundation awarded $58,400 as grants to assist 15 members in need
and granted $19,500 to fund 12 chapter philanthropic projects. The Foundation assisted
11 members with scholarships to attend leadership conferences totaling $6,800 and
awarded $100,800 in academic scholarships to 71 members for the 2018-2019 school year.
SHARED HEARTS. NEW HEIGHTS.
A CAMPAIGN FOR SIGMA KAPPA
As we strive toward the $5 million capital campaign goal, campaign
priorities of Philanthropy and Scholarships have been fulfilled. We are now
focusing on the biggest area of the campaign, Leadership. This fall, we
will continue sharing the campaign message of securing Sigma Kappa's
legacy and building an even better experience for the next generation
of members at alumnae gatherings in Chicago and Kansas City. Visit
sigmakappa.org/foundation/capital-campaign/to learn more. As we
continue our campaign journey, it will take shared hearts and gifts of all
sizes to reach new heights!
SIGMA KAPPAS EXCEED $1 MILLION FOR
THE WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S
Every year, Sigma Kappas across the country participate in the Walk to End
Alzheimer's. As a platinum national team, Sigma Kappa commits to raising
$500,000 each year for the Alzheimer's Association through the Walk. Sigma Kappa
has surpassed $1 million in fundraising on a national level for two consecutive years.
In addition to participating in the walk itself, many of our sisters serve on their
local walk committees and volunteer to help execute the walk each year to provide
additional service and support to their local Alzheimer's Association chapters.
