2010-2011 Annual Report
June 1, 2010 - May 31, 2011
Dear Sigma Kappa Sisters,
On behalf of national council, it is my honor to share with you the
Annual Report for 2010-2011. This brief overview describes the work
completed by the Sorority during the most recent fiscal year.
One of the most significant steps that the organization took this year
was to create two new officer positions - vice president of philanthropic
service (combining foundation and philanthropy chairmen) and vice
president of communication (combining recording and corresponding
secretaries). Adding these key positions ensures that our members focus
on the importance of service within the chapter and places emphasis
on the areas of chapter activity that national council believes are most
important.
In addition to social media outlets Twitter and Facebook, which have
continued to grow in popularity, Sigma Kappa added a You Tube
channel and an online accounting software system, Billhighway. Sigma
Kappa will continue to keep our members connected through many
different means of communication.
The financial position of the Sorority continued to be solid, even in the
midst of economic uncertainty. Membership numbers and financial
operations once again remained strong for the 2010-2011 year.
I recently came across a quote by Robert Collier that seemed to be
fitting for this Annual Report: "Success is the sum of small efforts,
repeated day in and day out." Thank you for all that you have done,
day in and day out, to ensure that Sigma Kappa remains a viable
organization for years to come.

FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS
The Sorority's finances are in excellent condition. Our general fund net margin for the fiscal year
June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011 is $355,746 and for all funds combined $463,799. Our national
organization continues to budget conservatively and analyze our spending to make sure we are
spending on "needs versus wants." It is through this mindset that we have been able to do more
with our finances and to invest in areas that will impact all Sigma Kappa members. These funds
are allowing Sigma Kappa to make investments in extension, technology, new programs and
capital needs.
Last year, Sigma Kappa had a goal to allocate additional funds for our upcoming NPC rotation
in October 2013. We are very happy to announce that we have met the goal and now have
approximately $216,000 ready to support the expenses of our NPC delegation during this
momentous time.
Sigma Kappa chapters have a new chapter accounting program with Billhighway.
Implementation occurred during the spring of 2011 with all chapters on the new system as of
June 1, 2011. The national organization has been listening to our members and your desires to
pay online and to streamline the chapter's finances. We are pleased that this change has been
received SO positively for all of our collegiate members.

EXTENSION
Sigma Kappa had an extraordinary year of growth. The extension team submitted materials
to several universities and was invited to give four extension presentations. Sigma Kappa was
selected to colonize at all four prestigious universities. Additionally, the Sorority was chosen to
recolonize two dormant chapters at Arizona State University and the University of Missouri.
In January, Sigma Kappa colonized the Kappa Tau Chapter at the University of West Georgia.
In February, the Sorority colonized the Kappa Upsilon Chapter at The College of New Jersey.
Both colonizations were extremely successful, adding 123 members to the national organization.
Sigma Kappa is excited to join the Greek community at Indiana University-Purdue University
Indianapolis and Florida Atlantic University in Fall 2011. Significant planning is already
underway for the recolonizations of our Theta Omicron Chapter at Arizona State University
(Spring 2012) and the Epsilon Mu Chapter at the University of Missouri (Fall 2012).
LEADERSHIP CONSULTANT PROGRAM
Two collegiate services specialists and eight leadership consultants comprised the 2010-2011
traveling staff program. Each consultant was assigned to one or two based chapters. A based
consultant works with a specific chapter on an ongoing basis to provide additional support in all
areas of collegiate management and recruitment. Seventeen chapters, including our newest Sigma
Kappa chapters, participated in the based consultant program. Overall, 85% of our collegiate
chapters received at least one visit from a consultant. Leadership consultants made 268 chapter visits
during the academic year. At the end of the 2010 - 2011 academic year, the term "based chapter
program" was changed to "focused chapter program." This name change better explains the
purpose of the program in that participating chapters are receiving more "focused" attention and
support from both staff and volunteers.
PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS
All 109 collegiate chapters participated in the Collegiate Officer's Academy®. R
Thirteen advisory boards participated in the Advisor's Academy
The Advisor's Academy curriculum was updated.
The following handbooks were edited and posted online: Alumnae Vice President of Communication,
Alumnae Vice President of Philanthropic Service, Alumnae Sigma Kappa Triangle Correspondent, Vice President
of Scholarship, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Communication, Vice President of Philanthropic
Service, and the Advisory Board/Collegiate Province Officer Handbook.
CONVENTION 2010
Over 650 Sigma Kappas celebrated the "Magic of Service" at the 2010 national convention. Members
and guests from all over the world made the Orlando World Marriott their home from July 7-11, 2010.
To celebrate the "Magic of Service," Sigma Kappa recognized three women who have achieved great
accomplishments in their professional careers. The Colby Award, Sigma Kappa's highest honor, was
presented to Cheryl Stanton Bachelder, Tau, Nancy Brown Bicket, Eta, and Sandra Tauberg
Bartley Hess, Alpha Sigma. The recipients were applauded for their accomplishments as they kicked
off the convention with uplifting gratitude and words of encouragement.
Ritual workshops encouraged our members to return to our Sigma Kappa fundamentals. Over 500
women participated in the Initiation ceremony of Julie Laperouse, Beta Epsilon, and KaAnne
Morris, Beta Sigma, Sigma Kappa's 2010 honor initiates. In addition, all members participated in
business meetings to discuss official matters of the Sorority, vote on changes to the bylaws, and elect the
women who will lead the Sorority for the 2010-2012 biennium.
Workshops were offered and led by Sorority volunteers, staff, and special guests. Featured speaker
Ronica Licciardelo Cleary, Kappa Iota, encouraged our membership through a motivational
presentation during the National Panhellenic Conference Luncheon, "The Magic of Community." Two
other guest speakers, Cindy Stellhorn of MJ Insurance and Julie Laperouse of Screaming Peacock,
also joined us for workshops. The National Housing Corporation provided informative sessions for the
participating corporation board and property committee attendees, and the Sigma Kappa Foundation
showed the importance of supporting sisters through giving programs during "The Magic of Giving"
luncheon.
A trip to Orlando wouldn't be complete without a visit to The Happiest Place on Earth! Thursday
evening, Sigma Kappas enjoyed an evening at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, while
others relaxed at one of the six pools the hotel had to offer. Disney favorites were also part of the five
day meeting as Sigma Kappas dressed as Minnie Mouse, Tinker Bell and other favorite characters
for the Confirmed Conventionite Celebration, "The Magic of Character." Sigma Kappa alumnae
also celebrated their achievements through our first Alumnae Showcase on Saturday afternoon.
Many awards were given to our collegiate and alumnae chapters for their successful endeavors and
accomplishments during the Achievement Banquet, "The Magic of Success," on Saturday evening.

NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS UPDATE
National Headquarters made a number of changes in key areas to move the national organization
forward. Some of these changes included:
The 2010 convention body approved the addition of a new collegiate chapter executive
council position, the vice president of philanthropic service, and combined two positions
(recording and corresponding secretaries) into the vice president of communication.
Collegiate chapters transitioned to a new online accounting software system called

financial reporting tools.
Over 1,000 potential new member recommendations were submitted using our online
Recruitment Introduction Form.
The online reporting site, Dove Hub, continues to be enhanced. An academic graph was
added as well as a report to assist chapters in tracking new members.
The Sorority currently has 257 licensed vendors in Shop Sigma Kappa and the 2010 royalty
revenue was at a record level.
The national organization continued to utilize social media as a means of communicating
with our members. A YouTube channel was created and videos from COTS and convention
were posted.
Staff members continued involvement in professional organizations and societies providing
