Sigma Kappa
Dear Sisters,
It is incredible to look back on the past year and reflect on how much
change we've experienced as individuals, as a sorority, and as a society. In
February 2020, none of us could have predicted how much we would have
to pivot in the months ahead. If the past year has taught me anything,
it is that our membership is more supportive, flexible and tenacious than
I
ever imagined. I am very proud of what we have been able to achieve
and hopeful about the future. It is my pleasure to present the 2019-
2020 annual report, which highlights the many accomplishments of the
national organization from June 2019 through May 2020.
Observing the efforts of collegiate chapters, staff, volunteers, and
members at-large to navigate ever-changing restrictions and create
new ways of connecting and supporting each other has been incredibly
heartening. More than 100 new resources and trainings have been created
to help chapters transition to hybrid or completely virtual membership,
and volunteers have stepped up in a big way to encourage our chapters
and members through this time of uncertainty and change. As our idea
of normal continues to shift and evolve, I know that Sigma Kappas will
remain steadfast in their belief in the importance of our values and of
creating spaces that affirm and uplift all women.
Although this year has had its share of disappointments, including the
cancellation of the in-person convention experience this summer, I
am confident that when we do get to meet again, it will be even more
exciting. We have SO much to look forward to on the horizon, including our
150th anniversary celebration just a few years away. Our new strategic
plan will direct our work moving forward to ensure that Sigma Kappa
stays relevant and strong in the years to come. Thank you for all you have
done for our organization and our members over the past year, and for
continuing to Live with Heart in all you do.
Sincerely,
ann O'Connell adams

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & ACCESS
As diversity and inclusion continue to have a greater focus for fraternity and sorority
life, Sigma Kappa recognized a need to be a more inclusive and welcoming place for
women SO a task force was created in 2018 to review our efforts in this area. From this
task force and national council discussions arose "Open-Hearted: A Commitment to
Diversity and Inclusion." This was the beginning of Sigma Kappa's effort to ensure our
Sorority continues to meet the needs of today's women.
In February 2019, national council appointed a diversity and inclusion workgroup that
was tasked with reviewing educational tools and identifying opportunities for greater
inclusion within the organization. This workgroup was instrumental in beginning
Sigma Kappa diversity, equity, inclusion and access (DEIA) work. We wish to thank
the workgroup members:
Hawah Ahmad, Kappa Xi
Morgan Bailee Boggess, Alpha Chi
Jackie Bueno, Lambda
Adrija Chakraborty, Zeta Zeta
Jessica Deters, Zeta Pi
Jessica Guccione, Delta
Elisabeth Logan, Alpha Delta
Mollie Monahan-Kreishman, Theta Upsilon
Tracy Rogers-Tryba, Theta
Meredith Koski, senior director of operational strategy, staff liaison
SIGMA KAPPA
Annual Report

The work group made several recommendations to national council. Many have
already been implemented, and the rest have been incorporated into our next
strategic plan:
Mandatory DEIA chairwoman for all chapters
Book club focus on race, equity, and personal development
Affinity groups for Women of Color and LGBTQIA+ members
Inclusive calendar in The SKoop
Education on DEIA for staff, leadership and the entire membership
Celebration of members from diverse identities on social media
Posting open volunteer roles to the website to incorporate new voices
We are also grateful to the members of the Ritual Inclusivity Task Force who have
been working since June 2019 to review the Sigma Kappa ritual to identify non-
inclusive language and information. Members of that task force were:
Sara Chacon, Gamma Alpha
Angela Guillory, Delta Mu
Lisa Humenik, Gamma Mu
Carol Beth Ivory, Beta Epsilon
Ashton Kelly, Gamma Kappa
Marlee Ribnick, Epsilon Mu
Lea Sahgal, Lambda
Julia Kozicki, Tau, staff liaison
As we look to the 2020-2021 fiscal year, Sigma Kappa continues the commitment
to DEIA efforts by including it as a goal in the Sorority strategic plan, examining
ourselves, our policies and practices to determine whether we are contributing,
actively or passively, to social injustice. Sigma Kappa is committed to providing a
welcoming, safe and meaningful experience for all members. We want you to be
proud of your association with Sigma Kappa and all that it stands for. We know that
this work will enrich the membership experience for everyone and ensure that Sigma
Kappa continues to thrive for generations to come.

VIRTUAL OFFICER TRANSITIONS I FALL 2019
New content was developed specifically for each officer.
One volunteer and one staff member facilitated online training.
The training sessions were recorded and posted on the website for access throughout the year for
incoming chapter officers.
Officers were trained on nuts & bolts for their position and allowed for new officer to officer
connection.
Although these were not required, attendance was high and advisors provided feedback that
officers were more prepared for their positions than in previous years.
Since these were a huge success, we will continue with them this year in an enhanced format on
the Learning Center.
