Annual Report
2020 - 2021
Dear Sigma Kappas,
I'm pleased to present the annual report for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.
As we have continued to navigate the ongoing pandemic, this year
was filled with many new challenges, but also with some progress
toward a return to normal operations. During the entire fiscal year,
our national council and national headquarters staff observed a
travel moratorium and conducted all of our business through virtual
meetings. At the same time, many of our college students eventually
returned to campus and began to enjoy in-person meetings and
events once again.
In the last year, we learned how to successfully navigate a virtual
existence while building relationships and remaining relevant on our
campuses and in our communities. Chapters, staff and volunteers
came together to recruit new members; conduct virtual Initiations
and chapter meetings; and create contingency plans for the
future. Alumnae and collegians found fun, creative ways to stay
connected and encourage each other through difficult times. We also

took time to celebrate important milestones and accomplishm
even when we could not be together in person. We gave 93 awc
our chapters and members through a revamped awards process. We
also held our first-ever virtual business meeting on Zoom in place of
the 2020 national convention.
The 2020-23 Strategic Plan, which informs our work moving
forward, grew out of our desire to provide an inclusive,
welcoming environment that delivers a meaningful
experience while empowering our members. The three pillars of the plan
are strategic leadership; diversity, equity, inclusion and access (DEIA);
and modernizing the member experience. We have made important
progress toward each of our strategic goals during the fiscal year,
and our work continues apace.
The end of the fiscal year coincided with the much-anticipated
widespread availability of COVID-19 vaccines in the United States,
and with that hope that we can continue to safely resume in-person
activities. In the last few months, our leadership consultant team has
begun traveling once again, the national council will have its first in-
person meeting in almost two years, and we are eagerly planning the
2022 national convention in Denver, Colorado. As our excitement
builds for the future, I hope you enjoy this look back at the 2020-2021
fiscal year, which is one none of us will soon forget.
Thank you for all you do to care for and empower each other. We
made it through the year because our members share a deep
commitment to ensuring that Sigma Kappa remains a source of
strength and support for our members as we continually adjust to
our changing world.

Annual Report 2021 I Sigma Kappa
The boards and staff of the Sorority, Foundation and National H
Corporation (NHC) remain committed to
examining ourselves, our policies and
practices to ensure we are not
contributing, actively or passively, to
social inequity. While we have made
organizational progress, we know there is
still much work to be done.
A few of the Sorority DEIA
accomplishments are the last year
include: educating the board, staff and
volunteers on topics related to DEIA;
creating resources for collegiate chapters
and members; reviewing the National Policy Handbook and making
changes; working on recommendations to the Sigma Kappa Bylaws; ;
eliminating the legacy policy to empower our collegiate chapters to make
their own membership selections and creating a personnel committee to
review applications, interview and make recommendations for national
volunteers and ABSs to include new perspectives in our volunteer
pool. Additional details can be found here.
The history task force began to research our history with a goal of
communicating their findings in the winter 2022 issue of the Sigma Kappa
Triangle.
The ritual inclusivity task force researched and made recommendations to
national council to make our Ritual more inclusive. The task force has been
transitioned to a work group to carry forward recommendations.
Modifications to our Ritual will be introduced at convention 2022 in Denver.
Recruitment team volunteers and staff worked with Ebony Rose, DEIA
consultant, to create training for all collegiate chapter members around
Bias Response and Recruitment conversations. All collegiate chapters have
included this training as a part of their pre-recruitment.
In August of 2020, we created a DEIA committee composed of members who
helped us consider and understand the perspectives of our members who

Traveling Staff
Three collegiate support specialists (CSSs) and four
leadership consultants (LCs) comprised the 2020-
2021 traveling staff team.
The collegiate services team staff operated under a
district-based support model, with traveling staff
split across four sub-teams each supporting various
districts of the organization.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, collegiate
chapter support was conducted virtually. Virtual
chapter support consisted of recurring chapter
president touchpoint calls, virtual chapter visits and
virtual roundtable conversations pertaining to
specific subject areas.
Three new chapters and six specialized chapters
participated in the chapter advancement program
(CAP). .
94% of our collegiate chapter presidents received at
least one touchpoint call per term from a traveling
staff member.
26% of our collegiate chapters received at least one
virtual visit from a traveling staff member.
Traveling staff made 42 virtual chapter visits during
the academic year.
A portion of the leadership consultant program is
funded by the Sigma Kappa Foundation.

The curriculum focuses on three topics: CliftonStrengths, Emotic
Intelligence and the Enneagram. Using a cohort model, TLI is designed

leadership journeys
Using a cohort model, TLI is designed to build connection amongst
attendees while they pursue their individual leadership journeys
The in-person program is followed by participation in post-event webinars
for six months including regular touchpoints with their assigned mentors
All of the curriculum for TLI is designed and written with the goal to deepen
the cohort's leadership skills and development. None of the content is
specific to Sigma Kappa, rather focused on general leadership principles
and practices, helping to set up the cohort for their future career
aspirations and goals
In 2021, 13 collegiate and recent alumnae members* participated in the
inaugural TLI in addition to 13 alumnae who virtually participated as
mentors
TLI was fully funded by a grant from the Sigma Kappa Foundation, without
the generous support of our donors, this experience would not have been
possible
* Due to the impacts of COVID-19, three of the attendees had just graduated, as they
were previously selected for TLI before the event was moved to 2021.

- RLC 2021 & ELC 2022 -
In 2021 we were unable to host in-person Regional Leadership Conferences
(RLCs) due to the COVID-19 pandemic
As a result, chapter officers were provided their training through virtual
officer nuts and bolts sessions, and all collegiate chapters were paired with
a chapter coach to conduct their annual goal setting. In 2021, chapter
goals were created in conjunction with Standards of Excellence (SOE)
selections
While we were not able to host RLCs in 2021, we used this opportunity to
reimagine the RLC into the ELC, the Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC).
ELCs expands upon the shift in curriculum we made in 2020 to focus on
general leadership development designed specifically for emerging leaders
in the chapter rather than focusing on specific collegiate officer education.
ELCs will debut in January 2022 with the new content and model
Another modification for our in-person events was our facilitator
identification process. For the 2022 ELCs, all individuals interested in
serving as a facilitator were required to apply. A panel of volunteers

conducted a blind review of all applications and selections were
based off of this review. This new process increased the accessibmy
members and non-members to serve in facilitator roles, created greater
transparency in our process and significantly expanded our facilitator pool
- Virtual Volunteer Summit -
For the first time, Sigma Kappa hosted our national officers virtually in
June 2021. 164 volunteers participated in educational offering on topics
such as governance and diversity, equity, inclusion and access (DEIA), as
well as five additional breakout sessions using a robust virtual platform.

In addition to the Virtual Volunteer Summit, volunteers were also provided
ongoing education throughout the summer.
We released a suite of eLearning modules through The Learning Center for

subject matter experts to develop the courses. These courses included

Overall revenues increased from prior year due to investment ret
revenue from the Theta Rho closed chapter, and due to the post
of initiations and badge orders from spring 2020. These increases were
offset by the decrease in RLC revenues since these events were not held
Expenses decreased $1.4M from prior year due to reduced travel and RLC
events not held due to COVID-19, as well as the expenses related to
Volunteer Summit held in summer 2019. Prior year also included new
chapter recruitment and extension costs. The Sigma Kappa Triangle was
also digital in the current year as compared to physical mailings in the
prior year. These decreases were offset by increased expenses for DEIA
consulting and digital archive expenses
Net income for the year of$1.8M
The Sorority ended the year with net assets without donor restrictions of
$6.4M.
